"Grandma are you really old? (said by Emily to my mom during dinner)
"That's not my favorite" -the replacement phrase for "This is yucky dinner"
Conversation held immediately after dinner as she was scampering off to play upstairs at a friends house
"Emily did you wash your hands?"
"Yes Mommy"
"Did you wash them today?"
"Yes"
"Did you wash them after dinner?"
a pause, then...
"No Mommy, I'll do it right now" ...foot steps running to the bathroom

ha ha! Heidi used to say "That's not my favorite" all the time in high school. Like, especially if we were clothes shopping and I'd try something on and ask what she thought. "Well, it's not my favorite"- usually meant she really didn't like it at all.
I can see Heidi doing that! That is way better than "wow you look awful in that!!"
Karl and I are trying a new phrase when we are upset with one another. It is "Honey this (insert issue here) is not working for me." It seems to be cutting the temper tantrums about laundry and other lovely housekeeping issues way down!
