So, for the past 5 years we have lived happily in the little town of Groton, CT. We had a nice little house/condo, great friends, schools, the whole nine yards. Due to a small snafu with Navy fine print, we ended up in what has always been our last choice for navy postings, Norfolk, VA.
We moved Friday April 13th. It took us two days, but that was becasue we were vistiting family & traveling with small kiddos. Sydney, our youngest daughter, had decided that moving week was The Week to start potty training, but she was willing to wear a diaper in the car. We made it with minimal fuss for the kids and lots of fuss from our 2 cats.
We arrived Saturday afternoon and peaked at a few rentals before we made it over to our beach home rental in Sandbridge. Sandbridge is a largish beach community in Virginia Beach that is right on the ocean. The sand is nice and white, the water isn't too clear, but the breeze is great. It is really lovely. My favorite part about living right here is that we get a 5 bedroom rental that sleeps 12, has a large kitchen, easy access to a beautiful, but chilly beach, and accepts pets. It has been awesome. It was no problem to find a room for Karl's mom to visit last week. The girls were thrilled to have Grandma come, and we really appreciated the babysitting help while we house hunted.
We are in vacation mode for 3 more days right now. Karl starts work Monday, and then we go back into real world mode the week after that. We are waiting for the people in our new house to move out into their new house so we can move in!
So far we have spent our time frantically looking for a new home, potty training, getting sick, getting better, hanging out at the beach, losing power for 14 hours (our whole neighborhood was down), paint shopping, and visiting the somewhat small but fun zoo. Tomorrow will probably include a trip to the Aquarium, or maybe the Children's museum.
Friday I get to take off and have a girls weekend out with my 2 sister-in-laws & my mother-in-law. We are going to a conference and just have a grand old time. Karl gets a girls weekend too, but a different kind!
We miss Connecticut very much, and still plan to move back in about 18 months, but for now, I am going to take the advice of a friend and enjoy what's here while I am here instead of wishing I was somewhere else.
Did we mention it is hotter here?? The girls can't quite wrap their mind around the fact that the don't need jackets, long sleeves, and long pants. Karl can't quite understand why the water in the ocean is so horribly cold compared to DG.
So this is it for today. I will figure out how to add pictures & more stuff later. I have no idea who will read this, but I hope you enjoy it.
